Please read an article on "Achamana Vichara" at your lerisure Achamana VichAra Everyone is aware that Achamana is an integral part of SandhyavanadanaM. God has been kind to grant this great “MAnava Janma” And reminds of the Upadesha of Sri Puranadara Dasaru in performing Sadhana and making Sarthaka of this birth. How best we could follow the tradition in Achamana VichAra has ben explained in this article. ShuchinAM ShreemantAgEhE Yoga BhraShTObhijaayatE- says the Geeta Duties of a man: One should consider as fortune, great, Sarva ShrEShTa, to be born in this world, that too as a Brahmin. We know that “JantunaaM nara Janma DurlabhaM” Sri Puranadara Dasar has said ‘ Manava Janma doDDadu. Ida Haani Maadaii bEDi HuchchappagaLirA’ KaNNu KAi Kaalu kivi naalige iralikke maNNu mukki maruLaaguvare HeNNu MaNNigaagi Harinaamaamruta-uNNade upavaasa maaDuvare!! DurlabhaM TrayamEvaitat Daivaangraha hEtukaM manuShyatwam mumukshwataM mahaa purusha sanshraya !! This man hood bestowed by GOD is meant i) to get the Bhagawanugraha, ii) getting MOksha and iii) meeting Mahaapurusha Saangatya. Sri Puranadara Daasar feels that we have got this Manushtwa with great fortune which is very precious.(Sarva ShrEShTa). When it has been granted(Praaptavaadaaga) it should not go as waste(Vyartavaagi mADa baaradu). The eyes, hands, legs, ears and the tongue, these panchendriyas given by God is meant to utilise (SaarthakapadisikoLLabEku) and perform, duties, perform Dana dharma, live in the ordained life style, perform Sadhana in getting Sri Hari Darshan, pooja, yaatra and uttering HIS naamaamruta and japa etc. Sri Puranadara Daasar further elaborates in stating that “ Esa Beku Iddu Jaisabeku” giving the example of the Lotus leaf on water etc tells us to adhere and not to get adhered with this sansara and try to follow the Mukti path in performing Haridhyana, karma and Dharma etc. One cannot(Saadhyavilladudarinda) postpone(Mundakke TaLLi haakalu) the death. Gruhita ivakEshEshu Mrutyuanaa DharmamaacharEt- Before(Apattu odaguguvudakke muncheye)- it is that time, all dharma kaaryas should be completed. One should not fall into this unstable ‘moha- sansaara moha prapancha’. Wife, children, and wealth do not follow us. Must totally surrender to Him and immerse ourselves with full devotion with all sincerity in the Lord who is protecting us. In order to attain this saadhana, one has to observe all rituals, [commencing with the simple Achamana] usage, custom enumerated under different spiritual texts. Always one should try to spend his time in sanmArga , leading the right path in offering prayer to Sri Hari and make the life in the attainment of saadhana and live in bliss with HIM. Man eat and enjoys as he likes and grow. He is not worried about constraints on Vidhi, NishEda, Papa and PuNya. He is not bothered about all these things. He forgets and lives very happily. But what Next? He may realise in advance stage of his life when it is too late to start. Only man has to think and not the animals. They have no vidhi, Nishedha, Karma Bhandhaka etc. As far as man is concerned, his attitude in this Janma is quite different. Nitya SarvagatasthaaNuh achalOyaM sanaatanah- say in Geeta. This Jeeva, by exercising control, restraint over the vidhi, Nisheda, Karma and falling within its ambit always try to spend time in offering prayer to the Omniscient Sri Hari. He depends on HIM. Sri Madacharya in his ANu Bhaashya has also said the same thing about this aswatantra Jeeva, living always and dependant on Sri Hari. No doubt Jeeva even though AchEdya, AdAhya,Amara, by Janma is subject to Death (MaraNaadheenanu). Compared to animals and static objects, he is capable and intelligent. He has the capacity not only to enjoy all happiness in this tenure, but also has the same capability inJanmaantara to attain, Mokshaadi Purushaartha also. Hence the Veda, smruti, Upanishads and teachings are available to man and not the animal category. The sacred “Manava Janma” has come to us by Poorva Janma or Janmaarchita PuNya Sanchaya Phala. That too this great Janma as a Brahmin. When one has got such an excellent status, it is but fitting and a must that swavihita sandyaadhi Karamas to be performed without fail. Under Sandhyavanadanam, the most important part is the Achamana Vichaara. A detaliled note on this Vichara is explained with the fond hope that all would gain the ‘Nija Phala’ in adhering to the established usage, custom and shastras.
